Products I Love: December 2009

- MAC Pigment Powder in Mauvement or Violet
Get in on the trend this season by trying one or both of these two shades of purple... use Violet for a pop of color or Mauvement for a more muted look.

- Make Up For Ever HD Foundation
I cannot say enough good things about this foundation, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum! It's easy to use, it lasts for hours upon hours, and the best thing of all; they have an amazing selection of shade for EVERY skin tone!

- MAC Liquidlast Liner
This liner would last through a hurricane... literally! It won't smudge, flake or run no mater what you do!

What's in Vogue: Holiday 2009

Tis' the season... for parties that is! And since I'm sure you all have a slew of holiday soirées to attend this month, I know you'll want a few fabulous makeup styles to make you look stunning!

I have chosen two looks:

Look I - Holiday Gothic Chic
This look is very dark and smoldering... and a bit vampiric if you ask me!
Eyes - I used NARS eyeshadow in Night Sun swept over the entire lid along with NARS Mekong in the creese. Then I applied MAC PowerPoint eye pencil in Bountiful Brown around the eye and smudged liner with Mekong to soften the look. I finished with generously applied black mascara.

Cheeks - I used NARS illuminator in Albatross for a soft glow but you can also use a bronzer for a little more color. Try Lorac bronzer in Glow.

Lip - I used MAC lipstick in Cyber. Try Makeup Forever lipstick in Blueberry for a softer look.

Look II - 80s Inspired Holiday Chic
This look is featured in style section of the December issue of Austin Monthly and it has 80s vintage written all over it!
Eyes - I used MAC eye shadow in Rice Paper over the entire lid with Satin Taupe in the creese and swept out from the corner of the eye creating a "winged" effect.

Cheeks - I used MAC blush in Peaches to create this 80's style cheek.

Lip - I used MAC lipstick in Vegas Volt. Try MAC lipstick in Ravishing for a softer look.

Photo Shoot: BUYDEFINITION.com fall lookbook 2009

There's trend happening in fashion right now that seems a little controversial, but nonetheless, is all the rage... bleached eyebrows!

This distinct look has been seen on catwalks for Chanel, Prada and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as in Givenchy's latest advertising campaign, and now in the fall lookbook for Austin's own buydefinition.com!

Esti Choi, owner of buydefinition, had expressed that she wanted movement and blurring in the images, a trend that has been popping up in fashion magazines everywhere. The clothes she choose were bold with strong shapes, mixed with pops of color, so I knew the makeup had to be something simple but striking and what says striking like no eyebrows!

With outstanding commitment from our model, Sarah Johnson, the amazing photography skills of Tania Quintanilla, and incredible hair by Allen Ruiz, who also bleached our model's brows, I think we all walked away with a lookbook we can be proud of!

Words of advice: Cleaning your makeup brushes

Keeping makeup brushes clean and sanitary is a very important, but often overlooked step to great makeup.

I recommend this two step process:

1. For every day cleaning use 99% Isopropyl alcohol and keep it in a little spray bottle. It won't take too much time out of your schedule and will dry really fast. Just spray the brush and gently rub it on a paper towel.

2. Then about every month, wash them with a 2 in 1 shampoo (try Suave) and let them dry overnight.

Stick with these steps and your brushes will feel like new and keep your makeup looking fresh and beautiful!

What's in Vogue: October 2009

Daring lips, muted eye
Intense lipstick can be both powerful and pretty. Pair bright scarlet or deep crimson with subtle eye makeup for one of the hottest trends of the season!

products I love
NARS Illuminator in Albatross
Dust this across cheeks for a instant glow without looking too pink!

Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Makeup Remover
At the end of the day we all want to relax... let your eyes relax also by using this to remove any trace of makeup, even waterproof!

MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger
This is one of my all time favorite reds... not only do I wear it all the time, I even used it for the picture above!

Wedding: Nadia & Thomas

I truly enjoyed being Nadia's makeup artist for her wedding and her bridal portraits; a few of which you can view below. I went along with Nadia and Dustin Meyer, her photographer, on the day of her bridals' for touch-ups and lots of fun!

Nadia and Thomas were married at Lakeway Resort and Spa.

Hair by Jen Hoover.

Photo Shoot: The right face for warpaint

It took photographer Julian Humphries and I nine months of patience and planning for this look before we found our perfect face in model Danielle Burgess. Well worth the wait if I do say so myself!

Wedding: Kelly & Mike

I truly enjoyed working with Kelly and her family on her wedding... they were all so much fun, just like Kelly! Only a bride who has a great sense of humor can take one of her bridal portraits in a Amy's Ice Cream photo booth... although I'm sure her photographer, Dustin Meyer, had a little something to do with that!

Thanks Kelly, I wish you and Mike a wonderful life together!

Photo Shoot: Via Christa Chains

In my humble opinion, Tyler Reed is one of Austin's most talented jewelry designers. I have had the privilege of doing makeup for two shoots involving his jewelry in the past and when I heard that model Laura Ann was bringing one of his chains (her own I might add!) for a shoot with photographer Andrew Chan and hair stylist Jonnie Marie Iglesias, needless to say, I was excited! Little did we know, the picture would end up on the front page of his site!

Below you can see the picture and be sure to check out his wonderful work at www.viachristachains.com (look at his portfolio and you will find some of my work!)

Products I Love: September 2009

- MAC Blot Powder
The best for controlling oil and keeping the shine off your face, especially in the summer months!

- Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
I love this stuff. It makes any foundation or concealer go on smoother, look better and stay on longer.

- Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara
Never worry about getting caught in the rain or crying at a wedding because this stuff won't budge!

Photo Shoot: Sweet Swimsuit

I have worked with photographer Andrew Chan and model Sarah before, but never at the same time... I guess I should have made that happen a LOT sooner!

As you can see below, we got some amazing images even though the wind was blowing like CRAZY for the outdoor shoot, it was almost like an obstacle course to get to the location and Andrew forgot something pretty important (hint: you have to have it take pictures)!

Thanks guys, for a super shoot!

Wedding: Bianca & Gabor

I think Bianca has to be one of my favorite brides of the year! She is sweet, beautiful and she and her family were a joy to work with on her wedding day. Although I hadn't met Gabor before the wedding, when I was introduced, I could tell that he also had her sweet nature and that they were perfect for each other!

Below are pictures from her bridal session taken by the wonderful Maria Bernal whom I work with often... thanks Maria for the stunning pictures!

I also would like to wish Bianca and Gabor a wonderful life together... you guys are the best!

Personal Blog & Photo Shoot: Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.

That’s a Russel Baker quote and I think we can all appreciate it right now! It's been almost unbearably hot, but I have to say, I've truly been enjoying it... that’s a rare thing for me to say because I LOVE cold weather.

The month of June has been so busy with weddings, photo shoots and well, life, that I think I forgot to blog.... oops! Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting pictures from some of the more memorable of my projects and jobs...

First on the list; a still life shoot with Hammondovi Photography. I asked Geoff to take some pictures of my makeup for me to use on my web site and blog... I think he did an amazing job, but you can decide for yourself!
